Judge Rochester and the 2004 Political Campaign for Alabama Supreme Court

Judge Rochester speaks at campaign rally

In John Rochester's words...

"In 2004 I was elected state-wide as the Democratic nominee for a place on the Alabama Supreme Court. The thing that I am most proud of about that campaign is the fact that I ran a positive grassroots campaign with volunteers from Clay County and across the state. My support came from friends and family, and judges and lawyers that I have worked with throughout my career."

"I had an equal number of Democrats and Republicans working in my campaign. Sheriff James Jones, retired Republican sheriff from Shelby County, was a stand out. Ken Burroughs, who is now in charge of Governor Riley's Special Projects was one of my campaign coordinators, along with Democrat, Kenny Williamson, the Clay County Democratic Chairman. Eddie Rozelle, Hugo Black's great-nephew, was among the many men and women who worked hard toward my election."

"I wish all politics could work like that campaign. Of course it can't because we lost, but in a way, I still won. They say when a door gets closed, God opens a window. My window was an opportunity to attend New York University."
