"Personally, one of my most important goals was to recognize and honor one of Clay County's most distinguished citizens, Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black. One of the highlights of my professional life was the day that we dedicated my Courtroom to his memory," said Judge Rochester. "I still don't think we know how much Justice Black did to help our nation. Justice Black's rulings during the Civil Rights Era made him unpopular in Alabama and in the South at large."

"Fortunately, Justice Black was a man of principled intelligence and compassion. His core beliefs were learned right here. He was always quick to give credit to the place he came from. He treasured his ties to Clay County. It has been an honor to be caretaker for Justice Black's legacy in his home town."
